Meet the 2024 BAL semi-finalists

Eight games into the 2024 BAL postseason, and the four semi-finalists are now known.

On Monday, May 27, Nigeria’s Rivers Hoopers and Angola’s Petro de Luanda became the latest teams to advance to the 2024 BAL semis after facing two highly-contested match-ups at BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda.

Hoopers and Petro joined South Africa’s Cape Town Tigers and Libya’s Al Ahly Ly who grabbed the first semifinals tickets on Sunday, May 26.

Petro de Luanda cut a 20-point deficit to beat Senegal’s AS Douanes 66-65 in Sunday’s second Quarterfinals encounter.

The Angolan champions qualified for the BAL Semifinals for the fourth time in a row.

Three hours earlier, Rivers Hoopers became the first Nigeria team to reach the BAL semis thanks to a hard-fought 92-88 win over Tunisia’s US Monastir.

Cape Town Tigers caused the biggest upset of the 2024 BAL season by eliminating Morocco’s FUS de Rabat while Libya’s Al Ahly Ly ended the 2023 BAL winners Al Ahly SC’s season with an 86-77 victory.

Except for Petro de Luanda, the other three semi-finalists have reached this stage of the league for the very first time.

Teams will enjoy a rest day on Tuesday, May 28 before resuming their campaign 24 hours later when the 2024 BAL Semifinals get underway.

In the semis, Rivers Hoopers will face Al Ahly Ly while Cape Town Tigers will go up against Petro de Luanda.

The losing teams of the 2024 BAL Semifinals will face off in the Third-Place game on Friday, May 31 while the winner of the season will be known on Saturday, June 1.
