Fact files ahead of the 2026 BAL Final
)
With forty games played in the 2026 BAL season, it’s time for the most anticipated game of season six.
Over the past three months, twelve teams from across the continent have battled it out, but only the RSSB Tigers and Petro de Luanda will compete in this season's Championship Game.
Here are some facts about the 2026 BAL Finals.
RSSB Tigers vs. Petro de Luanda
Both the RSSB Tigers and Petro de Luanda reached the Championship Game with a similar win-loss record of 6-2.
While this is the Tigers' debut season in the BAL, Petro de Luanda are the only team in the league's history to have appeared in all six seasons.
Kigali to host 5th BAL Final
The Rwandan capital is set to host the BAL Final for the fifth time in six seasons. The 2025 BAL Final took place in the South African city of Pretoria.
Is it business as usual or a history-making moment?
If the RSSB Tigers win the 2026 BAL trophy, it will be in line with the league's tradition of producing a different champion every season. In the first seasons, five teams from different countries won the league title.
If Petro de Luanda win the trophy on Sunday, the Angolan champions will become the first team to win the BAL trophy twice — a historic moment given that they won the 2024 title.
Another debutant team reach the Championship Game again
This is the fourth consecutive year that a league debutant (RSSB Tigers) has made it to the BAL Final.
Previous debutant teams to reach the final include Al Ahly SC (2023), Al Ahly Ly (2024), and Alahli Tripoli (2025).
Players in previous BAL Finals
More than half of Petro de Luanda’s squad has experienced both the pain of losing a BAL Final and the joy of winning the league title.
Eight of those players are set to compete in the 2026 BAL Final. Aboubacar Gakou, Childe Dundao, Gerson Domingos, Lukeny Gonçalves, Yanick Moreira, Cléusio Castro, Eduardo João and Glofate Buiamba have all played in previous finals.
None of the current RSSB Tigers players have ever played in a BAL final before.
RSSB Tigers carrying the hope of a nation
For the first time in six seasons of the BAL, a Rwandan team has reached the final. After Patriots Basketball, REG and APR all fell short early in the season, the RSSB Tigers are carrying the hope of a nation.
Can Coach Valdeolmillos win a second BAL title?
Since taking charge of Petro de Luanda ahead of the 2024 BAL Playoffs, Sergio Valdeomillos has accrued an 18-9 win-loss record.
If Petro de Luanda win on Sunday, Valdeomillos will become only the second person after his fellow Spaniard Agusti Julbe (who coached Zamalek and Al Ahly SC) to win the trophy twice.
Can Coach Mwinuka make history?
Should the RSSB Tigers win the 2026 BAL trophy, their Tanzanian coach, Henry Mwinuka, will be the first person born in Africa to win the league.
Finalists with a recent and historic past
What makes the 2026 BAL Final even more fascinating is that, for the first time, it features two teams who have already competed against each other in the early stages of the season.
The RSSB Tigers beat Petro de Luanda 82-78 during the 2026 Kalahari Conference in Pretoria, South Africa.
No single-digit wins in the Final
A quick look at the previous five BAL Finals reveals that not a single game was decided by fewer than ten points.
