Stoglin breaks own BAL record with 41 points

Terrel Stoglin on Friday broke his own Basketball Africa League (BAL) record for most points scored in a single game.

On May 20th 2021, Stoglin scored 40 points in an AS Salé 88-79 win over AS Police to become the first player to score such figure in the BAL.

On Friday, Stoglin had a 12-for-23 shooting, including a 6-for-11 haul from behind the arc, to finish with 41 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds in 40 minutes.

Stoglin did a bit of everything to keep AS Salé in the game, but US Monastir proved too strong to beat as the Moroccan champions fell 96-90 for their second defeat in three games.

“It feels good. All glory to god and my family back home. I gave my best effort to them,” he said in an exclusive interview with the bal.nba.com.

Stoglin scored 3 of his 6 three-pointers in the final quarter when AS Salé’ took the lead for the first time after trailing by 20.

Asked about AS Salé’s situation in the Sahara Conference, Stoglin said: “It’s tough to be in this position and I am hurt. We need to get these last two games [against DUC and SAC] I have confidence in my guys, this is a great team.”

“We got hurt. We always fight till the end. We’re going to give our best effort in those two games. It’s do-or-die situation for us.”

Stoglin – alongside Abdoulaye Harouna - has been AS Salé’s main weapon offensively, and his scoring prowess is going from strength to strength in the Sahara Conference.

After finishing with 32 points in a 91-87 loss to Rwanda Energy Group, Stoglin scored 34 points to propel AS Salé to a 95-84 victory over Ferroviario da Beira.

“We did everything we could to stop him, but he is a great player,” US Monastir captain Radhouane Slimane later admitted.

“It doesn’t matter unless we win. We need more players contributing,” AS Salé Head Coach Liz Mills replied when asked about Stoglin’s new record.
