The competition to break the 42-point BAL scoring record is hotting up!

When Jo Lual Acuil set a BAL scoring record of 42 points in the 2024 season, many believed that this historic record would be broken sooner rather than later. However, two seasons later, the record still stands.

How did Jo Lual Acuil set the BAL scoring record?

While playing for Al Ahly Ly against the City Oilers during the 2024 Nile Conference in Cairo, Egypt, he spent 40 minutes on the court, shooting 20 out of 28 and making two out of two free throws to eventually finish with 42 points, 13 rebounds and two assists.

At the time of writing, over 705 days have passed since the current BAL scoring record was set.

With the 2026 BAL in full swing, there were several occasions when the 42-point scoring record was expected to fall. However, it somehow prevailed.

But it can't be denied that the competition to break the 42-point BAL scoring record is hotting up! Over the last seven days, three players finished 3 and 5 points short of the current scoring record.

In this article, we highlight nine instances that threatened Acuil’s record. We only considered instances with a differential of nine points or fewer to the 42-point mark.
