Tripoli’s Boissy sets season 3-point record in opener of Nile Conference

Jean Jacques Boissy wasn’t even the first option coming off the bench for Al Ahli Tripoli. However, when coach Fouad Abou Chacra called his name later in the first quarter, Boissy knew he had to make an instant impact — and he did.

Back-to-back three-pointers by Boissy saw Al Ahli Tripoli take their first double-digit lead (29-17).

By halftime, Boissy led all scorers with 15 points, shooting 5 for 7 from deep.

Much of Al Ahli Tripoli’s 87-77 win over MBB in the 2025 Nile Conference opener was due to the stellar performance of the Senegalese guard.

Boissy eventually scored 24 of his 28 game-high points from behind the arc, giving the Libyan champions their first ever BAL win.

Boissy’s eight three-pointers are now the most made by a player in a single game this season.

"Boissy carried us through the whole night. Shoutout to him. I am just happy we came out with the win,” said Jaylen Adams, a former NBA player who made his BAL debut with a 16-point contribution.

"Everyone was unselfish tonight. Everyone touched the ball and got shots. We defended together and committed," Adams added.

Deon Thompson, a Côte d'Ivoire international player, paved the way for Al Ahli Tripoli by opening the scoring with two straight three-pointers.

Al Ahli Tripoli went on to lead by as many as 19 points, but MBB wasn’t prepared to go down without a fight. They cut the gap to just five points (72–67) later in the fourth quarter after a three-pointer by Robinson Opong.

However, the South African champions' 21 turnovers, combined with poor ball movement (nine assists in 40 minutes), proved costly.

“As long as we fix those little things, we are going to put ourselves in a position to win,” said Pieter Prinsloo of MBB, who contributed six points and five rebounds in the losing effort.

Jovan Mooring led MBB in scoring with 26 points. Teafale Lenard Jr. added 20, and Opong had 15 for the Johannesburg-based team.

On Sunday, MBB will take on host APR, while Al Ahli Tripoli will face Kenya’s Nairobi City Thunder.
