Club Africain Biography
Founded on October 4, 1920, in Tunis, Club Africain is far more than a sporting club, it is a national institution deeply embedded in Tunisia’s history and identity. For over a century, it has stood as a symbol of pride, resilience, and excellence, embodying the spirit of generations who have worn its colors and filled its stands. Driven by one of the most passionate and loyal fan bases in Africa, Club Africain represents a powerful community united by tradition, ambition, and an unwavering pursuit of victory.
Structured as a multi-sport powerhouse, the club has left its mark across football, basketball, handball, volleyball, and swimming. Throughout its history, it has contributed decisively to shaping Tunisia’s sporting landscape, developing elite athletes and setting standards of discipline, commitment, and competitive excellence.
The basketball section, founded in the years surrounding Tunisia’s independence in 1956, reflects this same trajectory of determination and growth. After reaching the top division in 1967 and being relaunched in 1976, the team secured its place among the national elite in 1979, marking the beginning of a sustained presence at the highest level of Tunisian basketball.
The club stepped into the national spotlight in 1982 with its first Tunisian Cup triumph, laying the foundation for a lasting winning culture. The historic league title in 2004 opened a new era of dominance, later crowned by a golden period between 2014 and 2016, when Club Africain captured three consecutive championships and achieved back-to-back domestic doubles firmly establishing itself as the benchmark of excellence in Tunisia.
Today, as the reigning Tunisian Champion for the 2024–2025 season, Club Africain continues to define competitive standards. Its honors list reflects decades of consistency and ambition: 5 National Championships (2004, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2025), 7 Tunisian Cups (1982, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2014, 2015 2024), 5 Super Cups (2003, 2004, 2014, 2023, 2025), and 4 Federation Cups (1995, 1998, 2017, 2018).
On the continental stage, the club has demonstrated its stature by hosting and finishing third at the 2014 FIBA Africa Clubs Champions Cup and securing fifth place in 2016 among Africa’s elite clubs.
