Founded in 1980, Atlético Petróleos de Luanda (Petro de Luanda) is one of Angola’s most successful multi-sports clubs. Based in Luanda, the club competes across several disciplines, including football, handball, and basketball. The basketball section has been a dominant force in Angola, winning multiple national championships and establishing itself as one of the continent’s leading programs, with two African Champions Cup titles in 2006 and 2015.

As the Angolan champions, Petro de Luanda qualified automatically for the 2026 Basketball Africa League season. The club advanced from the Sahara Conference to the BAL Finals in Kigali, where it finished as runners-up after reaching the championship game. Petro became the first team in BAL history to reach the Championship Game four times, following its appearances in 2022, 2024, 2025 and 2026.
